Few-Electron Quantum Dots and Disks in Zero Magnetic Field: Possible Indications on a Liquid-Solid Transition
نویسنده
چکیده
Exact-diagonalization study of few-electron quantum dots and disks are performed, with the aim to investigate a Wigner cluster – Fermi liquid crossover in zero magnetic field at varying strength of Coulomb interaction. A clear indication on a transition of a liquid-solid type in the ground state is found in a more adequate quantum-disk model.

FEW-ELECTRON LIQUID AND SOLID PHASES IN ARTIFICIAL MOLECULES AT HIGH MAGNETIC FIELD MASSIMORONTANI ([email protected]), GUIDO GOLDONI
Coupled semiconductor quantum dots form artificial molecules where relevant energy scales controlling the interacting ground state can be easily tuned. By applying an external magnetic field it is possible to drive the system from a weak to a strong correlation regime where eventually electrons localize in space in an ordered manner reminiscent of the two-dimensional Wigner crystal. We explore ...
متن کاملVertical coupling effects and transition energies in multilayer InAs/GaAs quantum dots
We investigate the transition energy of vertically stacked semiconductor quantum dots with a complete threedimensional (3D) model in an external magnetic field. In this study, the model formulation includes: (1) the positiondependent effective mass Hamiltonian in non-parabolic approximation for electrons, (2) the position-dependent effective mass Hamiltonian in parabolic approximation for holes...
متن کاملElectron transport through double quantum dots
Electron transport experiments on two lateral quantum dots coupled in series are reviewed. An introduction to the charge stability diagram is given in terms of the electrochemical potentials of both dots. Resonant tunneling experiments show that the double dot geometry allows for an accurate determination of the intrinsic lifetime of discrete energy states in quantum dots. The evolution of disc...

In recent years, semiconductor nanostructures have become the model systems of choice for investigation of electrical conduction on short length scales. Quantum transport is studied in a two dimensional electron gas because of the combination of a large Fermi wavelength and large mean free path. In the present work, a numerical method is implemented in order to contribute to the understanding ...
متن کاملسیستمهای ناکام و همبسته الکترونی
Quantum phases and fluctuations in correlated electron systems with frustration and competing interactions are reviewed. In the localized moment case the S=1/2 J1 - J2 - model on a square lattice exhibits a rich phase diagram with magnetic as well as exotic hidden order phases due to the interplay of frustration and quantum fluctuations. Their signature in magnetocaloric quantities and the hig...
